Let's get personal...in the shower.
Today, we're talking about washing and moisturizing your body.
Shower Time Troubles:
- Hot water dries your skin out more then tepid water. As tempting as those long hot showers are, they are damaging to your skin.
- Love the Lather? Who doesn't! But all those luxurious bubbles strip away moisture and other key elements from your body's skin.
It's the same idea as the hand washing.
You don't need all those bubbles to be clean! - Try showering less frequently. Ok, Ok, I know sometimes it is just NEEDED.
But there may be times when you're showering as part of your routine, and you could probably skip the sudz.
KISS: Keep It Simple, Sweetheart.
Read your labels, if you have to google it, then its too complicated.
Back to the basics....the less ingredients the better.
Kick it old school, with simple and pure products.
- Take your shower, using nice, non-irritating tepid water
- Try to reduce the number of showers you take
- Use all-natural soap or shower gel (remember KISS proof the ingredients, if you can't pronounce it then its too complicated)
- Pat yourself dry (no rubbing, scouring and being rough on your skin. What did your skin ever do to you?)
- Then apply an all-natural, oil-based salve or all-natural butter based lotion.
Trending Terror
We've all seen the commercials for the "wet skin moisturizer" or
"in shower moisturizer" products, right?
Some model is innocently slathering herself with a chemical laden product while in the shower,
or before drying herself after her shower.
We think: "Her skin looks great!" And "What a great idea, you're capturing all the water and rubbing it into your skin!"
Here is what I think: "Ah, a commercial that is showing you how to grow skin fungus and clogged pores!"
Do you hear that?? It's the sound of me gagging.
Here is the recipe that terrifies me
- You're all warm and wet from the shower
- You cover yourself with a product that is most likely mineral oil based
Whoa....hold your horses? You said: Mineral Oil is natural, right?
Sadly, no. Even with the nice word "Mineral" in its name, it is not.
It is a by product of the oil refinery industry and is commonly know to clog pores.
Back to the recipe.
- So, now you're wet and warm and covered with a product that is non-natural oil, that commonly clogs pores
- Then you get dressed, sealing it all in for the day
- It is the perfect petri dish for unhealthy skin and skin issues
PS: Now the gagging sound is your skin, suffocating!!!
I know that was a little harsh.
But sometimes, we just need some tough love.
I believe you can handle it.
As a matter of fact, I TOTALLY believe in YOU!!!
You're here, you're reading, you're thinking.
These are great first steps to making some changes.

Wow, this was a great post. I love oil based moisturizers as well.
I get so boggled when trying to figure out beauty products. I love hot showers, but with kids, I’m not showering nearly as frequently as I used to and my skin does feel better :)
Hahaha, I love the part about the sound of you gagging. I have had the same thoughts — that doesn’t seem like it makes a lot of sense…? Great tips, thanks for sharing!
