Aromatherapy Essential Oil Diffusion Hacks

Diffuse essential oil for little to no cost and time

High quality Essential Oils aren’t cheap, and it stinks (ha, ha) to have to spend even more money on gadgets to diffuse your EO’s in your home, office and car.

Inspired by frugality, here are a few hacks to diffuse on the cheap.
They’re eco-friendly too!

What you’ll need:

  • Several 3-inch squares of felt
  • Couple of clothespins
  • Pot of water

1: Air Conditioner:

Most window AC units have a vent filter that you need to remove occasionally to clean. Depending on what it is made from, you can apply a few drops of EOs directly to it, or put a small piece of felt with the EO’s on it and slip in. When the Ac is on, the force of the air will blow EO Aromatherapy all over your house!

Or

Take one of the felt squares apply a few drops of your favorite EO’s to it.
Use a clothes pin to clip it to the outside of the vent. Turn AC on and enjoy the EO breeze.

2: Heat Vent:

Dry winter forced air heating got you down? Use the clothes pin and felt square method on hot air vents around your house.
We like Germ Away on our vents for a whole house attack on winter colds and flus.

3: Car Air Vent:

Felt square and clothes pin for the win again here.

TIP: Don’t keep your precious EO’s in the car. The extreme changes in temperature can render them useless.

4: Stove Aromatherapy Diffusion Method:

Take a pot and fill it about half way with water. Add a few drops of EO’s and set on the stove to simmer (please only do this when you are home and can monitor the stove). The simmering action of the water will gently send the aromatherapy wafting through your kitchen.

If you have a head cold, use this method with TSH’s Head Space. Carefully hold you face about 1 foot above the water, with a towel over your head.
Your goal is to make a little tent, so you can get a EO steam facial. The steam combines with the Head Space Blend will give you concentrated help for sinus issues.

Think about the appliances that are ALREADY moving air throughout your home and office…and make them work double time to also diffuse EO’s.
You’ll save money on your electric bill, if you chose this over a wall outlet diffuser.

TIP: We don’t like to mix EO’s on the same felt pieces, so we have felt that coordinates with color on the bottles label.

What do we diffuse?

This time of year, our favorite is Head Space. Fall allergies are in full swing and we can all use a little help clearing our Head Space.

My son prefers Let It Be, life is stressful and sometimes you need a little bit of help just letting it all go. I prefer this one in the car, especially on long drives.

Such a simple and great ideas. I also like to put a few drops on a square of toilet paper, and then put it on the floor and vacuum. Makes my house smell great!

Love all of these hacks! Essential oils are so nice to use, but I always struggled to find effective ways without spending a lot of money on a diffuser. Thanks for writing this!
